Calblanque is a hidden gem that stretches from the southern tip of La Manga to the Mar Menor on the Costa Cálida. This 250-kilometer coastal strip borders the province of Murcia in Spain and houses one of the last remaining untouched areas on the Mediterranean coast. Calblanque was declared a Natural Park in 1987 and a Nature Reserve in 1992.

In addition, there are numerous walking and cycling routes, and the park is an excellent place for bird watching and nature photography.

Monte de las Cenizas: A Picturesque Walking Route

One of the highlights of the park is the Monte de las Cenizas, a scenic walking route suitable for the whole family. Along this route you will find impressive British guns of the type Vickers and Armstrong 38.1 cm, built in 1931 on an eighteenth century foundation. The route starts at a large Mayan-style entrance and leads to a few buildings and the two Vickers guns, which are designed for coastal defense. These cannons have a maximum range of 35,000 meters and a weight of more than 88,000 kilos. This walk is 6 km and goes up a lot so it takes you a good half an hour. Drive to La Manga club and past Campo Oeste you get a sign on the left side with El lleano Beal where you can park. Cross the road and walk a little further where you see the sign with the beginning of the walk. If you walk a little further down the road you will come across the Roman hiking trail, this is an easy walk that goes towards Portman beach. Parking space is here

Although Calblanque is a quiet place all year round, it can get quite busy in the summer months of July and August. During this period, the Spaniards come to the beach en masse and it is only possible to go to the beach by bus. You can park downstairs and then travel to the beach by bus. The best times to visit the park are in spring and autumn, when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are less.
